"DC Peaks 50" ultramarathon runners were rescued on Saturday in the Wasatch Mountain range just north of Salt Lake City about 9 miles into the race when conditions worsened. Sudden snowfall amounted to 12 to 18 inches and the wind gusts of around 30-40 mph created near white-out conditions. One ultramarathon runner Kelsey McClung recalls not being able to see the trail. Many were not prepared for the sudden snowfall as the forecast had predicted rain and a dusting of snow. David County Sherriff said, "Even mild rain can translate to blizzard conditions at higher elevations" and said that rapid weather changes can be dangerous. A few racers were treated for Hypothermnia and one for a minor injury but all got off the mountain safely.
